Gmail is highly efficient, but that doesn't mean it is perfect. If you find yourself in a position where you cannot log in to your account, the messages look all wrong, you can't send mail, or you get a cryptic error when trying to access your account via IMAP, what are you going to do?

Get Gmail Help From Google

If you have an issue with Gmail, you can report it or get help from Google. Email support is available only for select problems—typically those that prevent you from logging in to your account.

If you want to suggest a new feature or improvement, Gmail offers a dedicated form for that purpose.

Contact Gmail Support

Before you contact Gmail Support, check the Gmail status webpage. It's possible parts of the system are down, or many users are having the same problem. Google may already be aware of the problem. If you don't see a systemwide message, it is time to contact support.

To contact Gmail support and get help via email for a specific issue:

  1. Go to the Gmail Help Center in a browser.
  2. Select the general area of your problem. For example, if you get an error message trying to log into Gmail, click Manage your Gmail account > Sign in or out > Sign in to Gmail.
  3. If available, select your platform tab: Computer, Android, or iPhone & iPad.
  4. Sign in to Gmail if you aren't already signed in by clicking the Sign in to Gmail button.
  5. Follow the steps Google provides to address your problem.
  6. Click Contact us near the page's bottom. If you find no Contact us link, try a different troubleshooting step that could apply to your problem or other support options.
  7. Fill in the form with detailed information.
  8. Click Submit.

Visit the Gmail Help Forum

Direct Gmail support is only available for select problems (log-in troubles, for example). You can always suggest an improvement to the Gmail team or raise an issue in the official Gmail Help Forum where dedicated Gmail helpers and engineers roam:

  1. Go to the Gmail Help Forum in a browser.
  2. If you are not signed in to a Google account, log on with your Gmail address and password.
  3. Enter your problem in the search bar at the top of the screen and review the search responses. You can also scan the current and recent ongoing help conversations to see if your problem is covered.
  4. If you don't find anything related to your problem, start a new thread and explain your problem.

If this is your first time in the Gmail Help Forum, you may be prompted to register and read the site guidelines before posting to the forum.
