Internet Explorer 11 comes with Microsoft's own Bing as the default engine as part of its One Box feature, which allows you to enter search terms directly in the browser's address bar. IE gives you the ability to easily add more search engines by selecting from a predefined set of add-ons available within the Internet Explorer Gallery.

First, open your IE browser and click on the down arrow found on the right hand side of the address bar. A pop-out window will now appear below the address bar, displaying a list of suggested URLs and search terms. At the bottom of this window are small icons, each depicting an installed search engine. The active/default search engine is denoted by a square border and light blue background hue. To designate a new search engine as the default option, click on its respective icon.

To add a new search engine to IE11 first click on the Add button, located to the far right of these icons. The Internet Explorer Gallery should now be visible in a new browser tab, as shown in the screenshot above. As you can see, there are several search-related add-ons available as well as translators and dictionary services.

Choose the new search engine, translator or other related add-on that you wish to install and click on its name. You will now be taken to the main page for that add-on, which contains details including the source URL, type, description, and user rating. Click on the button labeled Add to Internet Explorer.

IE11's Add Search Provider dialog should now be displayed, overlaying your main browser window. Within this dialog you have the option to designate this new provider as IE's default option, as well as whether or not you wish suggestions to be generated from this particular provider. Once you are satisfied with these settings, each configurable via check box, click on the Add button to complete the installation process.
